Trying to decide b/w the Benelli Nova or Super Nova.? My question is it worth paying the extra money for the recoil reduction in the Super Nova? Or should I go with the Nova and purchase the mercury recoil reducers? Seem like the same gun besides that.

Conrad replied: "The mercury reduces are not that cheap, and you have to buy that bracket for them too. Might save a little money, but then you have to fart around with it too. See what you can get them for and ask yourself is the difference worth it."

DJ replied: "Unless you are very small and weak, you don't need those fancy gadgets....after all they can break and cause more problems than they are worth. Do 10 push ups and pull ups everyday and get a limbsaver butt pad and you'll be fine."

Bubba13 replied: "Buy a Remmington, they are more reliable."

SALIM K replied: "nova, buser My job depends on it!"

Thoughts on the Benelli Nova? I have been trying to figure out what shotgun to get for duck/quail hunting. I was thinking about either a Rem 870 or Mossberg 500. My cousin thought I should look into the Benelli Nova. Does anyone know anything about this gun? Most the reviews say it outperforms the other two and they say it has a milder recoil and you can purchase a recoil reducer. I also read that the safety is reversible, so it seems like a good bet. I used to shoot at Benelli right handed semi auto (on long term loan) and loved it. Any thoughts.

Ron Brgundy replied: "I personally wouldn't buy anything that isn't made in the USA"

Tahoeguy replied: "I have an HD version of the nova, its a great gun. I have an 870 express as well, and like them both. The benelli has a much smoother action, closer to the 870 wingmaster. Definately recommend the Nova or super nova if you have the extra coin..."

Chris replied: "Supernova FAP FAP FAP!"

Anthony replied: "For duck or quail, I've always used the Remington 870, just because I'm partial to the pump, but I hear good things about the Benelli."

survivethebc replied: "Benelli Nova - Best money I spent on a shotgun!"

James H replied: "The best gun for hunting ducks is the benelli semiautomatic inertial driven shotguns like the M2/montefeltro. Its hard to lure those Mallards to get within 25 yards, best thing to do is get a fast shooting Inertial driven gun to bring them all down. How fast does it shoot, Tom Knapp can blow ten clay pigeon (thrown in the air) away with this gun before it hit the ground. The best birdshot I use is Remington, wingmaster HD and Hevishot."

Jeff replied: "I bought a Benelli Nova this summer for duck hunting and love it. I would definitely buy it over the other 2 guns and would recommend it!"

Dan replied: "benelli is a GREAT brand. i dont own a nova but i own a benelli m4 and love it to death. best semi auto shotgun i own in my opinion, and ive been a remington guy since i got INTO guns lol."

fred Bump replied: "I don't like the Benelli Nova. To me, it's bulky even though it's not heavy. I'm not a fan of plastic and that's all this gun seems to be made of. The recoil on this gun is outstanding, It kicks harder than my mossberg 835. The gun feels slippery to me and it's hard to hold on to. I would go with the Remington 870."

Master T replied: "I've shot one once. It fired fine, but seemed a bit light for the heavier magnum and steel shot loads you will be using for waterfowl hunting. I agree with the first poster. I prefer to buy American made firearms. The Remington 870 has been around for decades and any gunsmith worth his or her salt can fix one in an hour or less. Also, Remington's factory service is first rate."

RUGERIZMISTICNESS Bober hunter replied: "It does have less recoil because of the rotating bolt. I have one in 20ga and note that the stock-reciever(s, there is an inner steel receiver aswell as the outer shell) are one piece which means that it won't work loose like a few others. I haven't tried to reverse the safety, it might be reversible. The nova action is different from the super nova action. The Nova action is built stronger, but is less smooth compared to the supernova (the nova is still way smoother than the 870). I love my nova."
